In Your Grip

Hold my heart and hold my hand

As long as I have feet to stand

And when I cannot walk or run

Into Your arms I will go on

I fear the dark yet still I know

Your light surrounds where ‘er I go

My gentle plea, my one desire

Be held in You till I retire

And know I will be here again

For all time waits then to transcend

As once You call Creation new

Reborn we all come back to You

Where blood and water mingle now

Where precious fire breaks the bough

The time will come to make things right

The cross brings dawn up from the night

And Savior as a father would

Not as I am but as I should

Turn back my heart into this song

Near to my Christ where I belong

There is a cleft where none could hurt

Where linger I not to avert

Your presence known, none else but you

Have brought me here to see it through

This gift of life that I receive

Oh Jesus Christ I do believe

Your blood has saved me from the pit

The cross I cling, my sins remit

So as I wander humbly bowed

I pray, with unclean lips allowed

“My Lord, My God, Father and friend,

You grip my hand until the end”
