Birthing the Pebble

[From “The Pebble” Series]

The moment He formed me

Time itself had yet to be

Special constructs were unconstructed

The vacuum of space was vacuous

With a screeching sound unlike anything heard or yet to be heard

As the clouds thunder and as lightning strikes

The very breath of the nothingness expanded into being

And from the concrescence of created time existence became the liminal

There; among the echoes of the future expanding

In the vacancy of the Promethean sea

His coda; a piece of matter formed

Not like anything that had been

From the birth of time and space a single fleck came into being

Before matter had a source it was beget in the crescendo of a Voice

Thy Word

And from a nursery fleck a coordinate plane found function

Categories grew and measurements became incomprehensible

What was but a fleck became the reference to something glorious

A created thing became the thing to identify Creator

A little pebble

A praise of the Voice’s glory

The moment He formed me
